Blepharoplasty

Conveniently located to serve the areas of New York, NY

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is one of the most popular procedures for men because it is effective at dramatically reducing some of the signs of age. To learn more about how it may be able to help you, please call or email Dr. George Lefkovits for a personal consultation today.

Before and After Photos

When young, a man’s eyes hold much of his strength, but with age, this can change. A man’s eyelids can begin to sag, creating a tired appearance. Excess skin and fat may accumulate in the upper and lower lids. The upper lid can grow puffy and hood the eye while the lower lid can grow puffy and saggy. Dark circles under the eye may become deeper and more permanent.

In addition, the brows can begin to sag or permanently contract, creating an angry expression. Crow’s feet and other wrinkles may become visible. These can combine to make a man look old beyond his years and can seriously affect both personal and professional relationships.

Procedure

Eyelid surgery seeks to correct the changes in the eyelids that create a tired, angry and aged appearance. New York, New York, plastic surgeon Dr. George Lefkovits typically performs eyelid surgery in our fully equipped, state-of-the-art surgicenter under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. The surgery removes excess skin and fat from both the upper and lower lids if necessary. Sometimes, fat from the lower lid can be relocated to address hollowness under the eyes.

The upper lid incision is well concealed in the upper eyelid crease. The lower lid incision may be placed either just below the lashes or on the inside of the eyelid (known as the transconjunctival approach).

Recovery

You may have to take the first few days off from work after surgery, perhaps until the stitches are removed at four to five days. Your eyes may initially be sensitive to light, tear up or be dry. There will be swelling and discoloration of the eyelids, but once the stitches are removed, makeup can be used to cover up the discoloration. Avoid sun exposure to the bruised areas to prevent permanent discoloration. Your incisions will typically heal well, becoming very subtle, almost unnoticeable.

Complementary Procedures

Aging in the eye area is complex, and to get the optimal results from your surgery, Dr. Lefkovits may recommend complementary procedures. BOTOX® cosmetic injections can reduce furrowing in the brows and the appearance of crow’s feet. A forehead lift can reduce sagging of the brows. Laser resurfacing can also be used to reduce fine wrinkles around the eyes or on the eyelids.

Do you often have people tell you that you look tired or angry? Even the most cheerful person can look drained if the eyelids are saggy. If you want to restore that youthful glint in your eye, our plastic surgeon may recommend that you pursue blepharoplasty, which is an eyelid surgery that renews the skin. Excess skin and fat often accumulate in the upper and lower lids. When the upper lid gets puffy, it adds a hood to the eye. Lower lids get puffy and saggy, causing deeper, more permanent under-eye circles.

Purpose of Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery can correct unwanted changes in the eyelids. During the blepharoplasty, Dr. George Lefkovits will remove excess skin from the eyelids. Additionally, fat from the lower eyelid can be relocated to improve any hollowness that is present under the eyes.

You can rest assured that the eyelid surgery will leave you with a more youthful appearance without visible scarring. The incision on the upper eyelid will be concealed within the eyelid’s crease. The lower lid typically has an incision at the lash line but can also be present on the inside of the eyelid.
