Young women and men in their 20’s and thirties often complain of a fullness in their chin and neck region. Sometimes the fullness is mild but at times it can be very prominent leaving no definition to the neck.
Cause– While obesity can a contributing factor, as can certain medical conditions, most times these patients are not overweight and the cause is simply genetic.
Treatment– The preferred treatment is neck liposuction This involves making a very small incision behind each ear and under the chin. The result is immediate and complete. The use of Kybella as a dissolving agent does not compare to the result that can be obtained with a one-time liposuction procedure.
The procedure may be performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on the patient’s preference and anxiety level.
Post-op Care
The patient is instructed to wear a special compression band continuously for 4 days after which time the band needs to be worn only at night for 10 days. The stitches dissolve. Return to work may occur after just 4 days. For example, if the procedure is performed on Thursday, one can return to work the following Monday. Patient satisfaction is very high.
