BBL (Brazilian Butt Lift)
Conveniently located to serve the areas of New York, NY

A Brazilian Butt Lift (commonly known as BBL or buttock augmentation) is a surgical, body contouring procedure that uses fat transfer from donor sites to enlarge the size of your buttocks, aiming to create natural-looking results.
The goal is to create more volume in the buttock area, which over time may be lacking volume due to genetics, dieting habits, and/or weight loss.

Procedure
If you are feeling unhappy with your current butt shape, or tired of having a flat, unattractive buttock, the Brazilian Butt Lift may be the procedure you’ve been looking for. This procedure can also help restore a flat or sagging butt due to childbirth or weight loss. There are other benefits of the Brazilian Butt Lift which are the main reasons why this procedure is getting more and more popular.
Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. George Lefkovits in our Park Plaza Plastic Center in New York City routinely performs this buttock augmentation procedure to give you a fuller, rounder derriere.
Ideal Candidate
This procedure can be an excellent option for reshaping your figure and making you appear slimmer and more curvaceous, but, during your initial consultation, you should discuss with Dr. Lefkovits whether it is the right buttock enlargement procedure for you.
You are an ideal candidate for the Brazilian Butt Lift if:
- You have excess fat on your stomach, back, thighs, or other parts of the body
- You have good blood flow to your buttock area
- You are in good physical condition and good general health
- You are a nonsmoker
- You have realistic expectations
On the other side, you may not be a good candidate for BBL surgery if:
- you are overweight or underweight
- you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- you have certain medical conditions (blood clotting disorder, for example), or take certain medications (anti-inflammatory, antibiotics, blood thinners…)
- you are under 18 years old since your body is still developing
- you should not consider BBL if you have unrealistic expectations about the results
Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery

The main principle of this procedure is removing the fat from other areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, or thighs. Fat taken from elsewhere in your body is injected into appropriate areas of your buttocks through small incisions, to create a firmer, plumper backside.
During the BBL procedure, the plastic surgeon makes a few small incisions in the buttock area to allow for the insertion of small tubes called cannulas. These cannulas are attached to a liposuction machine called tubing which will allow for the removal of fat in a sterile container. The fat that is removed is purified before transferring to the buttock.
The main fat donor sites include:
- the backside or thighs
- arms
- the abdomen (stomach)
- lower back
At Park Plaza Plastic surgery, Dr. Lefkovits uses liposuction to remove fat from other parts of your body. Not only do you get an improved silhouette but you also get to contour another part of your body that’s been retaining unwanted fat.
Risks
The Brazilian butt lift procedure is not without risk, but the risks are similar to those of other plastic surgery procedures – bruising, swelling, bleeding, pain and discomfort. This procedure can result in complications that require additional treatment or even more surgical procedures. However, most complications are minor and can be treated.
The risks could be minimized by choosing a qualified, experienced surgeon. Your board certified plastic surgeon will go over all of your options with you and help you determine how best to proceed with this type of surgery.
Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery

The postoperative journey is similar to any other plastic surgery procedure performed. When it comes to BBL, recovery time is different for every patient, and it mostly depends on the extent of your procedure and your goals.
Discomfort, Pain, Bruising, and Swelling
Discomfort, bruising, and swelling are present after the operation. For the first week or two after surgery, you’ll need to take it easy and rest. Avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting. It’s also important to avoid crossing your legs or placing pressure on your incision site while sitting.
To minimize swelling, the compression garment should be worn for several weeks after the Brazilian Butt Lift procedure.
Sitting and Sleeping On Your Buttocks After the BBL Surgery
Bear in mind – you will need to limit sitting during the first 10 days to avoid putting pressure on your buttocks. When sitting you should use the special buttock pillow to decrease the pressure applied to the buttocks.
When sleeping try to lie on your stomach in the first few weeks.
Return To Work
You are able to return to work after a week or two, but you may need to take it easy for a few more weeks.
When sitting during work you should sit for short periods of time and only when using a buttock pillow.
Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery Cost
One of the most common questions we get is – “What does a Brazilian Butt Lift surgery cost?”
The surgical fee for the Brazilian Butt Lift varies from region to region and from surgeon to surgeon. The range around the country is $6500- $13,000, which is quite a spread.
While cost obviously needs to be concerned, other important factors are:
- the surgeon’s qualifications – Board Certification in Plastic Surgery,
- lots of experience performing the Brazilian Butt Lift,
- being comfortable with the surgeon’s aesthetics and
- having a good rapport with your chosen surgeon.
The cost of this procedure depends on the amount of time and work that is necessary for liposuction and grafting procedures. In order to receive the best estimate for Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure, please request your free consultation with Dr. Lefkovits. During the virtual/office consultation Dr. Lefkovits will be able to assess the amount of work required for the procedure. At Park Plaza Plastic Surgery, we offer many financing plans that make this procedure affordable to any budget.
FAQ
How Long Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery Last?
This procedure usually takes about 2 hours, but it may depend on the volume that needs to be added, and the amount of fat that is being injected.
Is BBL Surgery Performed Under General Anesthesia?
Brazilian Butt Lift is usually performed as an outpatient procedure, using general anesthesia, but some surgeons use local anesthesia.
Is This Procedure Painful?
Pain following the Brazilian Butt Lift is completely normal and manageable. You may need to take pain medication for a few days.
Are You Using Silicone Implants For This Procedure?
Unlike buttock silicone implants, which require the surgical insertion of foreign materials, the Brazilian Butt Lift only uses your own fat. This decreases the risk of rejection, scarring, and other adverse side effects that follow these silicone materials.
Will My Butt Lift Last?
If you want to nurture the size and shape of your new gluteal contour, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Exercise and eat healthy so that your body does not lose fat from other body areas. Try to keep your body weight as consistent as possible. An increase in weight will inevitably cause your buttocks to reshape, as this procedure does not prevent new fat cells from developing.
Can I Combine Other Procedures With the Brazilian Butt Lift?
Some of our patients choose to combine BBL with Mommy Makeover, Tummy Tuck, or Breast Augmentation procedure. Discuss with your surgeon the option that best suits your desired outcome.
Can Men Undergo Brazilian Butt Lift?
This procedure has been used by women since its invention in the early 2000s. However, what you might not know is that the BBL can be done on men as well. Actually, it is becoming increasingly common for male patients to request this surgery.
There are certain anatomical differences – for example, men tend to have less fat throughout the body.
If you’re a man who is considering getting a Brazilian Butt Lift, don’t worry. No matter the gender, our surgeon Dr. Lefkovits will consider various options with you before undergoing BBL surgery.

When you have decided you want this procedure, it is best to do some research and make sure that the person performing your surgery is qualified. The more information you can gather about your doctor’s background and qualifications before having surgery, the better. This will allow you to feel more confident in your ability to perform the procedure safely with less risk involved.
In addition to being double board certified, New York plastic surgeon Dr. George Lefkovits is a leading specialist in buttock augmentation using fat transplantation (BBL), attracting patients from all over the country as well as from around the world.
He has been performing this procedure for many years, long before it gained mainstream popularity, though he called the procedure the Brazilian Butt Fill™.
