According to data released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), breast lift procedures have seen a significant rise in popularity in the last 13 years. In 2000, less than 53,000 breast lifts were performed in the United States. In 2013, over 90,000 breast lift procedures were performed. Although breast augmentation surgery is still the most popular procedure by far – with 290,224 procedures conducted in 2013 – the 70% increase in breast lift surgeries represents a two-fold increase compared to breast augmentation, which has grown just 37% since 2000. Plastic surgeons across the country have noticed the uptick in breast lift procedures on an individual basis. One ASPS-member plastic surgeon in Columbus, Ohio told The Science World Report: “More women are coming to us who’ve had children, whose breast volume has decreased, and who are experiencing considerable sagging. For many of them, we are able to get rid of excess skin and lift the breasts back up where they’re supposed to be.” In 2013, the top five cosmetic surgeries in the United States were: breast augmentation, rhinoplasty (nose re-shaping), eyelid surgery, liposuction, and face lift surgery.
