When Should I Get a Face Lift?

Many of our patients ask us what the ideal age is for a face lift. If you have noticed wrinkles, facial folds, and other skin changes in recent years, you may be wondering whether now is the right time to undergo a face lift. The right timing for a face lift procedure will depend on a wide range of factors. During a personal consultation, Dr. Lefkovits will examine your facial skin, review your medical history, and determine whether or not face lift surgery is right for you at this stage in your life.

Facial aging usually begins in your late 30s, and progresses throughout your 40s and 50s. Loss of facial volume will gradually become more pronounced during this time, resulting in skin folds, deep lines, and a “hollowed-out” facial appearance. If you are experiencing these problems in your 40s or 50s, now may be the best time to get a face lift. At this age, your skin should still have a good amount of elasticity, which is important for quality results. Additionally, most patients in this age range are still healthy enough to undergo surgery, with fewer medical issues and a lower risk of complications.

If you wait too long to have a face lift, it may be difficult to reverse some of the facial changes that have occurred. However, many patients at this age are still good candidates for a face lift. Your eligibility will depend on how well your skin has held up over time, and your overall health.
