Male Chest Reduction with Liposuction

Gynecomastia is a condition where the male breast tissue becomes enlarged. Over half of adolescent boys have some form of gynecomastia during puberty, but in 75% of cases, it resolves within two years. Men who still experience gynecomastia in adulthood may struggle with low self-esteem and a compromised self-image.

Male breast reduction is an increasingly common plastic surgery procedure. More than one technique can be used to produce the desired results. If Dr. Lefkovits determines that your gynecomastia is primarily caused by excess fatty tissue, liposuction alone may suffice as a treatment method. During liposuction, a thin hollow tube called a cannula is inserted through small incisions in your chest. The excess fat is loosened and then removed by vacuum suction.

If your gynecomastia is primarily caused by excess glandular breast tissue, liposuction may not be the right approach. An excision technique is generally used to remove glandular breast tissue and reposition the nipple to a more natural male contour. The incision location and pattern can vary depending on your needs and preferences. In certain cases, Dr. Lefkovits may recommend using both liposuction and excision to provide you with the best possible results.
